Alex Ivey
My name is Alexandra Ivey and I am working with Dottie’s House as my Kishrei Halev project for my Bat Mitzvah.

Dottie’s House is a special place. It is a transitional housing program designed to aid survivors of domestic violence in their struggle to become independent and end the violence in their lives. Dottie’s House supplies affordable housing to women and their kids. They have services like psychological and career counseling, job training, art therapy, and self defense classes. This is all in a secure and monitored environment so the women and their children are safe from their abusers. I try to help out by babysitting the kids when the moms are at therapy and their classes. I

have always loved art and share this passion with the kids. We do art therapy projects together and just hang out. The art projects are a great way for the kids to express themselves and deal with their feelings. I am also raising money for Dottie’s House by running bake sales at Temple Beth Miriam for three Sundays in March. With a little help from my mom and dad, I’ll be baking all of the cakes, brownies and cookies for these sales.
