CarePage

What is a Care Page?

Eric and Sharon Langshur’s infant son, born without a left ventricle in his heart, faced an ongoing, day-to-day struggle from the day he was born.  At just 18 months of age, he and his family had already been through the physical and emotional strains of three open-heart surgeries.

The Langshurs, exhausted and constantly in and out of hospitals, needed a way to keep in touch with their family, friends and loved ones, not only to keep them updated on their son’s progress, but also to receive much-needed feedback and support.

Their solution was to set up a Web site, which they named CarePages.com-a page that, seven years later, has become thousands of pages that shower patients nationwide with compassion and support.

“The support was invaluable, and we knew we had to share CarePages.com with others who faced medical challenges so they too could feel the uplifting outpouring of support and encouragement we were fortunate to experience,” said Eric Langshur, CEO of CarePages, Inc.

Today, CarePages.com brings millions of people together to support the emotional needs of people facing a health event.  CarePages.com is an online community where people facing a health event can stay connected, meet people in similar situations, get inspired and find resources to help give and receive emotional support.

At CarePages.com, members can create a free, personalized CarePage to make it easy to talk to and comfort an individual facing illness or injury.  This unique approach allows families to communicate with relatives, friends and supporters at the same time, when the time is right for them.  Each time an update in the form of news or photos is posted, an email is sent to those who have visited the site.

Additionally, loved ones who are invited visitors to the CarePage can send messages of encouragement and support to the family, creating a virtual community of care.

CarePages.com also offers a variety of resources that help people find others like themselves and learn “what to do” and “what to say” to support their ill or injured loved one.  Information like Emotional Resource Centers by disease, Stories of Inspiration, tips on how to cope, tips on how to find support organizations, advice on what to do and say when someone faces a health event, Healing Recipes and patient and caregiver blogs is provided both by professional journalists and experts as well as members of the community at CarePages.com.

Beth Miriam is very happy to offer this service to our congregants.  There is absolutely no charge.  You can set up your own page, invite anyone whom you wish, request that your Care Page invitation be listed on the temple website (or not, if that is what you wish) and, in this way, customize your own page.  Several Beth Miriam congregants have used this service but not it is integrated with the Beth Miriam site for more convenience and support.
