Last summer I did a Kishrei Halev Mitzvah project for my Bar Mitzvah. Kishrei Halev means, “connections of the heart” and mitzvah means, “good deeds”.
What I did was, I volunteered for the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is an organization that helps special needs people, and gives them a chance to feel good about themselves for participating in athletic events. I chose this because I love sports and I wanted to share my love for sports with other people. I went once in June to participate in the New Jersey Summer Special Olympics, in the softball throw. The athletes would throw a softball as far as they could. That was only one day. In August, I participated in a whole week of Special Olympics Camp. In this, the athletes participated in golf and volleyball. Everyday I was assigned an athlete. I instructed them and escorted them around to different places. Even though we had assigned jobs, in my opinion, cheering the athletes on was the most important job we had.At the camp, I talked with a lot of people, who were very different from me, I made friends, and I have to say, I had a lot of fun
